4th-8th Grade (Competitive)

The Shakopee Boys Basketball Association provides opportunities for youth in grades 4 to 8 to participate in Travel basketball. We do allow 3rd grade players to try-out for 4th grade Travel.  Players must live in or be open enrolled in the Shakopee School District to register.

Traveling Basketball is a competitive basketball program. Up to four Travel teams per grade level will be formed, if enough players register. Teams will participate in approximately 2-3 weekend tournaments per month, from November thru March, including the state tournament. Practices will be held twice a week at various school locations.  Parents are responsible for all transportation.

Fees & Registration

Players must register online and have a Sports Engine account. Registrations for the 2024-25 Winter Travel season will open on Monday, August 12th, 2024.

The registration fee for 2024-25 Winter Travel season will be $390 for 4th-6th grade and $425 for 7th-8th. One important note, most scheduled travel tournaments have moved to free spectator admissions at the door. To make up for the missing admission sales, tournaments have raised entry fees $150-200 per team. This is a total increase of around $1,650 per team over an 11 Tournament season or $25,000 for all SBBA travel teams.

The Association is able to mostly absorb these additional costs due to the Shakopee Preseason Jamboree and Winter Travel Basketball Tournament, hosted each season in October and January, which subsidizes more than 50% of all Travel costs. Travel families will be required to volunteer DIBS hours at either hosted tournament during the season. Each Travel family (no matter how many players you have) is required to do 4 hours during the 2024-25 season. More info on DIBS to come in October.
